09 Dec Virginia: Legal Recognitions – A Lawyer’s Sanctions
On November 16, 2016, Mr. Waterman’s pupilage group in the I’Anson-Hoffman American Inn of Court XXVII presented for CLE in Norfolk “Professionalism & Sanctions”. It covered inherent and constitutional authority (plenary power sanctions), Va. Code §18.2-456 (summary contempt power sanctions), Va. Code §8.01-271.1 (certification/representation sanctions), and Va. S. Ct. Rule 4:12 (failure to make discovery sanctions).
I’Anson-Hoffman is one of several hundred American Inns of Court, over all of which Virginia Supreme Court Chief Justice Lemons presided as president previously; and is affiliated with the College of William & Mary’s Marshall Wythe School of Law. Mr. Waterman has been a Master of I’Anson-Hoffman for a half-dozen years.
